Parents often ask, “How do I know if my child is ready for kindergarten?” Arnold Gesell answered those questions as he studied child development and set up a child study center at Yale. The process he designed, called Gesell Developmental Observation, guides parents and educators in finding the right timing and school fit for young children.

The Gesell Developmental Observation is not an intelligence, an aptitude, nor an achievement assessment. It simply identifies trends in development. Children grow and develop at different rates. Knowing more about your child’s developmental age helps in planning for entering school.
